David Hamilton MP for Midlothian and David Martin, Scotland’s senior European MP, visited Midlothian Innovation Centre to witness firsthand the benefit European Social Funding (ESF) is bringing in terms of the Skills for Midlothian Business.
The two David’s met Keith Gunn and Steven Welsh of ‘Keith Gunn Electrical Services LTD’ at the Midlothian Innovation Centre to find out the benefit to their business of European funding.
Keith Gunn, the managing director of the electrical company, told the MPs: ‘Because we have not been involved in new build we have not been hit by the down turn. People are tending to improve rather than move and that is good for our business.
‘To that end we continually need to keep or workers upskilled,’ Steven Welsh, contracts manager, told the politicians. ‘And this is where the European funding and Skills for Midlothian comes in very useful, it allows us to send our people for training and keep their skills at the cutting edge’.
David Martin said: ‘I am very impressed with the operation that Keith and Steven are running. It is exactly the type of project the European Union should be supporting and will help us beat the recession’.
